Bloomington Normal How to Conserve the Water That Goes to Your Toilet
We are all aware that the toilet uses a lot of water. We are torn between wanting to be sure that we can flush as often and as thoroughly as we want. The consequence of not flushing when we feel we should can be most unpleasant. The whole culture of the indoor toilet is having the luxury of flushing as required and watching or listening to the water being replenished.
What Are The Choices
If we are to conserve the water that we use in the toilet how do we go about it?
Dual Flush
One obvious choice is to have the dual flushing system which gives us the choice of a full flush or a half flush. This, on the surface, looks and feels like a good solution. But we all know that often the half flush seems insufficient and results in either another half one or resorting to a full one.
There is also the fact that the dual flush does malfunction quite often. This may, of course, be because the one I have is not the best. But it certainly has not proved to be the answer in any shape form or fashion.
Primitive
My parents, who are certainly of another age, used to have a bucket in the bathroom which we were to fill with water and use that to flush the toilet. In this way we could force some things down and not have to fill up the tank with water. It was certainly frugal, but doubtful in its effectiveness.
Nightime
Another effective way to save water is to let the nocturnal urinations go unflushed until the morning. My father used to advocate this. His reasoning was that the noise would wake the household and that it would not be necessary to flush until the morning if all we did was urinate during the night.
This certainly saves a lot of flushes if you have an active nocturnal household.
Other Ideas
My father was a very practical man. He always found ways to cloud the real issues. It was amazing how easily he could find reasons to do things that we never realized what the real motivation was.
He often suggested that we make sure we used the bathroom at school before coming home so that we would be able to get home safely without needing to relieve ourselves. He also encouraged us to use the bathrooms at the movies before returning home. As you can see this can easily apply to a wide variety of activities where you can use the facilities outside the home. This certainly conserves water at home.
Conclusion
The real advice is to become aware of how much water we waste in the toilet. If we stop and think every time we go to the toilet about how we can conserve the water required, we will come up with heaps of ideas and also really begin the conservation that is desired and helpful.
Let's meet at the local toilet in an attempt to conserve water at home.
